Jim Borland serves as the Deputy Chief Information Officer for IT operations in the Office of Systems, where he leads the day-to-day management of systems workloads. Jim previously served as the Acting Deputy Commissioner for Communications from January 2017 to July 2019. In that role, he oversaw the national communications and public affairs programs, spreading the message that Social Security is with you through life’s journey, securing today and tomorrow. He also served as the Assistant Deputy Commissioner for Social Security’s Office of Disability Adjudication and Review. Prior to 2011, Jim headed ODAR’s information technology operation, served as Special Advisor to the Commissioner for Health IT, and held various leadership positions in SSA’s systems, operations, and communications organizations.
